A network of businesses, local governments, and higher education, the Region 2000 Partnership supports regional planning services, economic development and workforce training in the 2,000 square miles surrounding Lynchburg. It includes the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell, the towns of Altavista, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Brookneal, and the City of Lynchburg. CEOs, college presidents, local public officials, and more participate through six organizations:

- Economic Development Council
- Local Government Council
- Technology Council
- Workforce Investment Board
- Young Professionals of Central Virginia
The collaborative efforts of the Partnership have rebalanced Lynchburg’s economic base, tilting its investments and incentives toward innovative, high-growth, high-wage industries. An Excellence in Virginia Government Award recognized Region 2000 in 2011 as Virginians who lead by example and inspire others through their model of public service.
